![]() This is indicative of the racing that day. All the cars were fast on this fast track, and the racing was extremely competitive. |

This was the first race of the new year and century, and you couldn't have asked for a better one! The racing was nothing short of fast and furious. After the grumbling about the format used at the last Paperboy race, a more normal format was used this time at Octorara Hills. Each driver was granted 90 seconds to get in as many laps as possible on his lane of choice to qualify. The top 4 qualifiers raced togther, the next 4 together, etc. The top 2 drivers from each round moved on to the final round, where the top 4 scores from all those drivers determined the winners. This format knocks out two of the top drivers, giving others a chance to get more racing in, and get a shot at the podium. Drivers from all levels were able to race in the later round, which let slower drivers test their mettle against faster racers. It was a large turnout at Octorara Hills as 23 racers took to the track despite the absence of some regulars. The VHORS was able to welcome a few new faces to the series, and hopefully we'll see them at future races. The final races were a sight to see. In the end the top 4 drivers were separated by sections, not laps. Now that's competitive racing. JB took another 1st place to make it two in a row. ...And that's on two very different tracks. I think he might be ready for the Fray. The upstart JJ snagged 2nd place right on JB's heels (JB actually thought that JJ won!). This is JJ's best finish, and the best finish for Team Bigstuff. We're very happy with our performance in what is still our rookie year. A hand full of sections behind JJ, Ken Taylor get the 3rd place finish. That makes two of Team Model Motoring in the top 4, and of the team members present, they were all in the top 8. This may be a good sign for them heading into the Fray. Rounding out the top of the list in 4th place was Len Norris. Again, he was so close to Ken in 3rd place. Len's white Yenko Camaro was definitely one of the fastest cars out there that day. JB, JJ, Ken, Len... maybe the rest of us should go by initials or have a name that rhymes with another racer ;-). Below you'll see the winners, as well as links to the Car Tech section, detailing the setups of each car, the Drivers section where you can see who was there and what they raced, and of course some action shots. Enjoy. |
