The December race was definitely one to remember. It was the innaugural race in the new track room, and one that featured a new (and eventually controversial) format.

The qualifying round was quite normal, 90 seconds on lane of choice to complete as many laps and sections as you could. The last format had the top qualifiers race last, which meant the pole sitter only raced one race and was guaranteed at least a 4th place finish. Last time the pole sitter was Tom Bowman who raced only one race and ended up 3rd. Understandably the pole sitter, while guaranteed a good finish, ends up with a less than satisfying day of racing. He expressed this to Kevin, and Kevin proposed turning the format upside down. Top qualifiers race first and have to prove to everyone that they can win, by beating literally everyone. Sounded good. In actuality, it turned out to be a discouraging race day for everyone else, and an exhausting day for JB, Joe, and Tom. But, hey, live and learn, right?

The day was one familiar sight after another. Like lambs to the slaughterhouse, we lined up and got sheared by Tom, Joe, and JB. When the double elimination rounds started, Tom Bowman fell victim, like the rest of us, to JB & Joe Selinski. The final results are below.

The Winners

Deja vu all over again. JB and Joe Selinski take the top two spots, but JB takes first this time. JB might look a little beat and fried, but remember, he's just been racing for about 2 1/2 hours straight, and about 440+ laps. Congrats to JB! You might be able to see that the M.E.V. Caddy Ambulance was one of his prizes--lucky dag! (Thanks Mike V.!)
Joe Selinski took second place just behind JB. It was amazing to see these two white Lolas go side by side for much of the racing. It went all the way to the last heat to decide the winner. Joe finished a very strong second.
Bob Jr. made a great showing to take 3rd place. It was a tall order to try to break into the top two. After a rocky start, dad (in the background) made an adjustment to the car that proved to be what Bob Jr. needed to grab the podium finish.
Joe Feeney was the 4th place finisher. Joe and Bob Jr. had the task of trying to take 1&2 away from JB & Joe. They had no better luck than any other racer. In the end a crash-n-burn decided 3rd and 4th place. Joe ended up on the short end of that to take 4th.
